E-Design - What is it, and How Does it Work?
The great thing about today's working world is that we have technology. There are so many things that we wouldn't have been able to do, like working from home, without the tools and equipment that we now have.
For anyone who doesn't know my story, and how I initially started my business, I was doing some side work not too long after college. I was working for an architecture firm, and I was looking for a way to pay off my student loans. I moved to an area where I didn't know anyone, and I figured I would utilize the time after work and weekends to work and make some extra money.
I found an online company where I started doing residential e-design for clients all over the country. It was very simple basic work, just furniture, and styling, but it facilitated the process of working with a client and set me up for what I do now.
So, what is e-design anyways?
It's pretty simple! It just means that instead of working on projects in person, doing site visits, and collaborating in person, we are meeting and working virtually. Throughout the process, we communicate through emails, phone calls, and zoom meetings.
Here's what you need to know
Before we get started, I always like to have a phone call with potential clients. I review your scope of work, budget, style, timeline, and lifestyle to see if we will be a good fit. If we are, I provide you with some concept boards that relate to your style and will be the design direction for your home.
Step 1 - You provide floor plans of the space and a detailed description of what you are looking for. If you are keeping any existing furniture, annotating those dimensions is essential.
Step 2 - I provide a few layouts for the space and we figure out which one will be most functional for you.
Step 3 - Once the floor plans are set in place, that's where I actually start to source! I'll again provide a few options for each piece, based on your design style and your everyday lifestyle.
Step 4 - When the pieces are finalized, I set up orders and handle any customer service needs that you may have. It's frustrating but inevitable that something will come in damaged, back-ordered, etc.
Step 5 - This is where you see everything come into place! I can coordinate an installer, and provide detailed plans and elevations of locations and heights of artwork, furniture, window treatments, etc.
