How to Tackle Spring Cleaning

There’s something about the warmer weather and Spring air that just makes you want to open all of the windows and clean every single thing in your house… no? It's just me?

Either way, if you’re looking to do some spring cleaning in your house but aren’t sure where to start, here are a few helpful tips to get you going!

VIA HOUSE BEAUTIFUL

One Room at a Time

Getting your entire house cleaned out can be totally overwhelming, especially if you have a larger house. BUT, Rome wasn’t built in a day, people. Try tackling one room at a time, completely finishing that room before moving on. If you’re a list person like myself, write out everything that needs to be done in that room so you can check it off as you go along-- or don’t, whatever works best for you!

Clear Clutter

It’s easy to accumulate things throughout the winter and allow clutter to happen in our spaces-- spring is a great time to try to tackle that clutter! In each room, you can go through your things and divide them into piles of keep, store away, toss and donate. Keep the things out that you’ll use for the next 3-6 months, store away things like winter gear, donate anything you see fit, and toss or recycle anything you don’t need anymore.

Involve Your Family

If you have kids at home, you can always find age-appropriate tasks for them to help with! To make it more fun, you can come up with a celebratory reward or incentive for once you’re done, like going to get ice cream or going for a family walk or whatever it is that will work for you.

Okay, now that we’ve covered the basics of how to tackle the spring cleaning, i’ll share a list of what to tackle in your homes.

Areas to Focus On

  • Walls -- give them a good wipe down!

  • Baseboards + trim

  • Windows

  • Window sills

  • Mirrors

  • Dust surfaces

  • Vacuum floors

  • Wash floors

  • Vacuum heavy window treatments (if you have an attachment for your vacuum)

  • Refrigerator -- clean it out and wipe it down! Get rid of anything you see fit.

  • Cabinetry + counters

  • Appliances

  • Ceiling fans

  • If you have washable rugs, give them a wash. If not, you can take smaller ones outside to shake them out and let them get sunshine.

Bonus Tips

You don’t need ALL the cleaning products. Promise. An all-purpose cleaner and microfiber cloths go a long way. I personally love Branch Basics cleaning concentrate which is a non-toxic, plant-based concentrate that you can make all sorts of cleaners out of (ex. all-purpose, glass cleaner, heavier duty bathroom cleaner, etc.). Their Oxygen Boost powder is also a game changer for cleaning.

And lastly, open up all of your windows to get some fresh air into your space. Put on some good music, and make the best of the cleaning!
